John Henry Muller, Monona, Iowa, January 31, 2018

John Henry Ferdinand Muller, 84, of Monona, Iowa died January 31, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. John was born on December 15, 1933 to John A. and Nelda (Henning) Muller in rural Monona Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. John attended Evergreen rural school and graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1953. He farmed with his family after graduation. From October 1955 to July 1957 he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

John was united in marriage with Joyce Fette on April 21, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. To this union four children were born, Tammy, Randy, Ricky and Terene. They farmed the Muller family farm until 1989, when John became a semi-truck driver. He was so proud to say he had driven in all 48 of the continental states and Canada.

John was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. He was a member of the Amvets Post #27 and enjoyed helping with their fish fry and soup supper.  While farming he served on a number boards including Wisconsin Dairies and Mid-American Dairyman. He was a 4-H leader and enjoyed helping his children show Jersey cattle. Many summers in the 1970’s & 1980’s were spent going to local, state and national dairy shows.

After retiring he enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, woodworking, wine making, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. New potatoes for 4th of July was always a treat and if the kids or grandkids needed cookies or a pan of bars, Grandpa would be happy to make them.

John is survived by four children, Tammy Muller of Monona, Randy Muller of Monona, Rick (Deb) Muller of Fayette and Terene (Kurt) Hauschild of Monona; eight grandchildren: Tara (Jeff) Struntz, Bloomington, Wisconsin, Tasha (Ryan) Whitman, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Trista (Josh) Anhalt, Atkins, Iowa, James (Jessica) Muller, Glen Haven, Wisconsin, Kayla (Tom) Ingham, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Jason (Sarah) Niles, Fayette, Iowa Travis (Kristin) Niles, West Branch, Iowa, Kaleena (Peter) Bettmeng, Oelwein, Iowa; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Iva McClimon; sister-in-law, Eileen Peterson; brothers-in-law, Virgil Fette, Ronald (Peggy) Fette and Richard (Diane) Fette; nieces, nephews and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents, John and Nelda Muller; father and mother-in-law, Albert & Rosina Fette; and one sister, LaVonne Christianson and brothers-in-law, Henry Christianson, Jr and Gerald McClimon.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018, from 2-5 pm at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa. Visitation will also be held one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018, at 10:30 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, Iowa, with the Rev. Harold McMillin as the officiant.

Burial will follow with military rites at the Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
