Marie Langreck, St. Lucas, Iowa, January 1, 2018

Marie Magdalen Langreck, 97, of St. Lucas, Iowa died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton, Iowa. Marie was born April 21, 1920 to John J. and Lena (Mihn) Langreck. She was the second of thirteen children. Marie attended St. Luke’s School in St. Lucas, Iowa through the eighth grade.

Marie worked for families in homecare in the West Union area. After moving back home she cared for her grandmother and then her parents. After the death of her parents, Marie farmed with her brother Louie on the farm Southeast of St. Lucas. Marie suffered an injury and moved to Linn Haven, where she lived until her death.

Marie enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining in her home. She was member of the Rosary Society at St. Luke Catholic Church and a longtime member of Catholic Daughters.

Marie is survived by her brothers, Clem Langreck of Lawler, Iowa, Charles (Mildred) Langreck of West Union, Iowa and Jerome Langreck of Lemon Grove, California; sisters, Agatha Busta of Lawler, Iowa, Edna Jirak of Lawler, Iowa, Margaret (Martin) Gossling of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Virginia Kuhn of Fort Atkinson, Iowa and Lillian Chipera of New Hampton, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews as well as many cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, John J.  and Lena Langreck; brothers, Henry (Verda) Langreck, Francis (Katherine) Langreck and Louie Langreck; sister, Beata (Raymond) Schmelzer; sisters-in-law, Bernice Langreck and Eileen Langreck; brothers-in-law, Larry Jirak, Stanley Busta, Paul Chipera and Julian Kuhn; nieces, Mary Jo Schmelzer and Deborah Jean Jirak; nephews, John Langreck, John Chipera and Conrad Langreck; one great-nephew, Lance Langreck; and two great-nieces, Sally Fagel and Allison Brannon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa with a two hour visitation from 9-11 am before Mass at the church on Monday. Rev. Daniel Knipper will be the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Luke Cemetery, St. Lucas, Iowa.
