Mary Mae Svendsen, 89, of Castalia, Iowa died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at her home in Castalia. Mary Mae was born November 10, 1928 to Charles and Orpha (Thias) Brown in Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from Postville High School in 1946.
Mary was united in marriage with Arthur Svendsen on December 29, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Mary was a faithful wife and mother, expressing the time when the children were growing up and she was working at the Good Samaritan Society and helping on the farm, was the best time of her life. She was a member of the Tuesday Club, served on the Mental Health Board and various WELCA offices, and was Council President.
Mary is survived by her four children, Evelyn Einck of Ossian, Iowa, Larry (Mary Jean) Svendsen of Ossian, Iowa, Norma (Duane) Koenig of Postville, Iowa and David (Victoria) Svendsen of Castalia, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Cory Koenig, Clay Koenig, Carmen Kriener, Rachel Sorenson, Adam Einck, Bree Peterson, John Svendsen, Jessica Wenthold, Russell Svendsen and Mark Svendsen; several great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Brown of Castalia, Iowa.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1987; parents, Charles and Orpha Brown; brother, Charles Brown; and a sister, Kay Grant.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa with Rev. Steven Jacobsen as the officiant. There will be a two hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa.
