Sherry was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 4, 1964 to Vernon W. Shaw, Jr. and Karen Mae (Stroschein) Shaw. She graduated from Central Community High School in Elkader, Iowa in 1983. During her lifetime, Sherry lived in many places including: Iowa, New Hampshire, Canada, Michigan, Illinois, and Missouri.

Sherry was united in marriage with Bradley T. Whitford on February 18, 1989 in Elkader, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Emily Ann and Wesley Nolan.

Sherry had a passion for caring for others and she did this in many ways throughout her life. During the early years of their marriage Sherry worked as a nurse’s aide in the Elkader Iowa Care Center, and at a DeKalb Seed dealership. In addition, Sherry helped her husband with the farms they managed. Sherry’s favorite job was being a mother. She loved and cared deeply for her children, and she dedicated all of her time during their pre-school years to caring for them and teaching them. Sherry shared her love of cooking and caring for others by working as an elementary school cook in Grundy Center, Iowa and Rochester, Illinois, and as a kitchen manager at Rock Creek Elementary School in O’Fallon, Missouri. Most recently, Sherry cared for other cancer patients in her support group and community by encouraging them, sharing her faith in Jesus, and being an example of strength and courage.

Sherry enjoyed scrapbooking, walking her dogs (Mickey and Baxter), coloring, music, daily devotions and prayer with her husband, going to church and Bible study, being a grandmother to her two granddaughters, exercise, traveling, cooking, baking bread, visits with family and friends. Sherry’s motto was “UNSTOPPABLE” and in Jesus Christ she is unstoppable. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
