Bradley Bergan, Volga, Iowa, July 3, 2018

Bradley Francis Bergan, 54, of rural Volga, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Brad was born April 11, 1964, in Elkader to Thomas Joseph “Joe” and Phyllis Marilyn (Walz) Bergan.

Brad graduated from Central Community High School with the Class of 1982. He attended Iowa State University, graduating in May of 1984, where he earned a certificate in farm operation. Brad was united in marriage with Mary Jo Fleming on April 13, 1985 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Volga. He has been a farmer his whole life – beginning with his Dad, he had milked dairy cows for 30 years and he still continued to farm the family farm.   He worked at Fenton Repair and in September of 2017, started working for Moyna Construction.  Brad served as a Sperry Township Trustee, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Clayton County Farm Bureau and Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting, metalwork (yard art especially) and being outside.  He loved his grandchildren and family and thoroughly enjoyed farming.  He had a very creative mind, often going down to his shop and coming back out with a “one of a kind” creation.  He always had a project or two brewing in the back of his mind.  He also restored a few old tractors that he enjoyed taking on rides around the area.  Brad was a kind, loving, hardworking husband, dad, and grandpa.

Survivors include his wife Mary Jo of rural Volga; three children, Matthew (Mary) Bergan of Arlington, Justin (Shawna Staack) of Strawberry Point and Megan (Justin Stone) of Independence; three grandchildren, Josie, Abbigail and Joseph Bergan; his father, Joe Bergan of Elkader; mother-in-law, Donna Fleming of Volga; siblings, Cindy (Paul) Francis of Carroll, IA., Jerry (Susan) Bergan of Elkader, Craig (Angela) Bergan of Elkader, Julie (Matt) Dahling of Elkader and Mary Bergan of Central City; brothers-in-law, Paul (Lois) Fleming of Elkader and John Hird of Volga; sister-in-law, Jody (Paul) Stempfle of Maynard, IA.; and many nieces and nephews.
