Sharon Kay Nelson, McGregor, Iowa, January 29, 2019

Sharon Kay Nelson, 73, of McGregor, Iowa died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.  Sharon was born March 9, 1945 to Milton and Anna (Boese) Gordon in Postville, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School on May 19, 1963.

Sharon was united in marriage with Adrian Nelson on May 10, 1964 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Together they farmed near Frankville, Iowa. After the death of Adrian, Sharon married Jeff Handke on August 18, 1978 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They later divorced.  She worked as a Medical Secretary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for many years. Sharon enjoyed traveling in the winters to Arizona and Florida, attending Aaron’s sporting events and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her children, Amy (Larry) Vorwald of McGregor, Iowa and Aaron (Becky Buehler) Nelson of Oelwein, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Bareis of Marquette, Iowa, Jean Szabo of Castalia, Iowa and Nancy Dilley of San Diego, California; brothers-in-law, Clarence Ruckdashel of Mesa, Arizona and A. D. (Diane) Nelson of Arizona; sister-in-law, Ardell Fortune of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian on September 12, 1976; her parents, Milton and Anna Gordon; siblings, Donald Gordon, Dwayne (Pat) Gordon, Janet (Don) Yauslin, Lola (Ernie)Heins and Charlotte Gifford; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Robert Nelson, Beverly Ruckdashel, Eugene Szabo and Art Bareis.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a 4:00 pm Scripture Service on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant.

Burial will be held at a later date.

A Sharon Kay Nelson Memorial fund has been established.
