Arlene Bodensteiner, St. Lucas, Iowa, April 21, 2019

Arlene Margaret Bodensteiner, 89, of West Union, Iowa died on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. Arlene Margaret Reicks was born March 3, 1930 in St. Lucas to James Reicks and Eleanor (Busche) Reicks. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and graduated high school in 1948.

Arlene was united in marriage with Leo Bodensteiner on October 3, 1950 at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa. Together they farmed southeast of St. Lucas while raising five children. Arlene was a member of the Foresters and Rosary Society. She, along with her husband Leo, were very active in Farm Bureau. Arlene was an avid quilter and would go anywhere for the right piece of material.  Arlene, undeniably made the best apple pies, and a LOT of them. There was always a fresh baked pie on the table and several more in the freezer, as well as all of her children’s freezers. She enjoyed working with flowers, gardening, playing cards with friends, and visiting with her children and grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren;

Son, David Carl Bodensteiner and Cheryl Lynn (Voss) Bodensteiner of Shawnee, Kansas, and their children, Jason Alan Bodensteiner and fiancé Erin Aileen Ford, Jenna Leigh Bodensteiner, Andrew Ryan Bodensteiner; and great granddaughter, Mira Marcella Bodensteiner.

Son, Keith and Jene (Boe) Bodensteiner of Rochester, Minnesota, and their children, Peter and Krissy Doherty, Emily Bodensteiner Schmitt and Alex Schmitt; and great grandchildren, Leo and Finn Doherty.

Daughter, Debbie and Jim Kehrer of Hayden, Idaho, and their children, Paul Luke Kehrer and Kathleen (Hoeber) Kehrer, Marc David Kehrer and Kathryn (Patterson) Kehrer.; and great grandson, Aidan Conrad Kehrer.

Son, Paul and Christina (Davis) Bodensteiner of West Union, Iowa, their children, Juli (Bodensteiner) and Chris Uhl, Gregory and Meghan (Nelson) Bodensteiner, Bradley Bodensteiner (Marissa McWilliams), and great grandchildren, Everett & Winston Uhl, Peyton, Olivia, Madeline Bodensteiner;

Son, Alan and Ann (Lynch) Bodensteiner of Hawkeye, Iowa, and their children: Zach and Valyn (Reinig) Bodensteiner, Zoie Bodensteiner, Zane Bodensteiner and fiancé Seema Suthar;

Four sisters, Edie Shindelar, Anita Imoehl, Monica Brooks and Verna Chasey ; and two brothers, Denis Reicks and Loras Reicks;

She was preceded in death by her husband Leo Bodensteiner in 2011; parents, James and Eleanor Reicks; three brothers, Leo Reicks, Cyril Reicks and Roger Reicks; sister-in-law, Judy Reicks; brothers-in-law, Merlin Imoehl & Alvin Shindelar; and a great granddaughter, Marlowe Bodensteiner.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa with a 7:00 pm Scripture Service with Deacon Jim presiding. There will also be a one-hour visitation before Mass at the church on Saturday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Luke Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa with Rev. Aaron Junge as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Luke Cemetery, St. Lucas, Iowa.
