Janet Marie Anderson, Eldorado, Iowa, May 3, 2019

Janet Marie Anderson, 74, of Eldorado, Iowa died Friday, May 3, 2019, at her home in Eldorado, Iowa.  Janet Marie was born July 17, 1944, to Leonard and Kathryn (Gordon) Roffman in McGregor, Iowa.  Leonard and Kate had 3 daughters. She graduated from Waukon High School on May 22, 1962.

Janet was united in marriage with Merle Anderson on August 29, 1966, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. Jan worked many jobs throughout her life. The last job she was working at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union where she worked with many people who became lifelong friends.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Jenean (Dan) Niedert of West Union, Iowa; one foster son, Russ (Lisa) VanBrocklin of Louisiana; two grandchildren, Rory VanSickle, Brody (Amanda) VanSickle and; four great-grandchildren, MaKenna, Garrett, Serenna, and Aaidan; and two sisters, Barb (Gary) Kroshus of Decorah, Iowa and Sharon Teft of Dorchester, Iowa.

She was an artist and enjoyed the beauty of nature. She spent as much of her time as she could outside and at the Nims Campground maintaining and enjoying the campgrounds with her husband Mert. Kayaking was also at the top of her enjoyment list.

She always put everyone else’s wants and needs above her own. The minute anyone walked into her house, she treated them like family. The result of this was you never knew who would be visiting, staying, or living in her house. She was mother, grandma, and friend to all.

She enjoyed jokes and laughter, even if the laughter was at her expense. She once shot a buck with only one antler. Everyone teased her for shooting a half a buck. The teasing was made worse when her husband gave her a board with the antler, the bullet, and a 50 cent piece mounted on it. He told her, “There, now everyone can stop teasing you. You now have a full mounted buck.”

She loved God and spent her life doing his will. She said many times, this world was not her home. She knew where she was going one day and she was going home to Heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Kathryn Roffman; and her husband, Merle Anderson on December 15, 2004.
