Mary Esther Severson, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, May 6, 2019

Mary Esther Severson, 99, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin died Monday, May 6, 2019 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.  Mary was born October 28, 1919 to James, Jr. and Mary Louise (Speck) Fisher on a farm near Eastman. She graduated from Prairie Du Chien High School in 1937. Mary was the Crawford County Dairy Queen.

Mary was united in marriage with Vernon Severson on October 1, 1938. Together they farmed near Eastman, raising purebred Chester White Pigs. In addition to helping her husband on the family farm, Mary worked at McGregor Loudspeaker, Ben Franklin department Store and as a guide at The Villa Louis. They retired to Prairie du Chien after farming.  Mary was a member of the Crawford County Extension Homemakers and enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress for many people. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed playing cards, dancing, spending time with friends, and watching her grandkids sporting events and musical concerts.

Mary is survived by her two children, Mary Lou (Leonard) Zabel of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Larry (Sharee) Severson of Eastman, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Rosella Smrcina of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Severson on September 4, 2000; daughter, Connie Catrona; her parents, James and Mary Louise Fisher; and one sister in infancy.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin with Rev. Lynn Schreck as the officiant. There will be a two hour visitation before services at the funeral home on Thursday.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
