Russell Duane Larson, Elgin, Iowa, March 9, 2009
Russell Duane Larson, 78, Elgin, Iowa, died Monday, March 09, 2009, at Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein, Iowa, following a brief illness. Russell was born on March 1, 1931, rural Clayton County, Iowa, to Philmen and Ida (Torkelson) Larson. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1949.

Following high school he entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. Russell was united in marriage to Marilyn Falb. He was later united in marriage to Vivian Hanson. Russell farmed most of his life until he retired. He also enjoyed buying, selling, and restoring cars. Russell was a member of the American Legion and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin.

Survivors include five children, Mary (Dave) Gravert, Davenport, Diane (Rick) Benhart, Cedar Rapids, Kathi (Steve) Stuntz, Greene, Pam (Dennis) Majewski, Greene, Greg (Wendy) Larson, Clermont; four step-children, Sharon (Mike) Schroyer, West Union, Linda (Larry) Larson, Liberty, MO, Connie (Bill) Dahlke, Marshalltown, Lisa (Gary) Schneider, Gunder; one sister, Beverly (Orlan) Reimer, Elkader; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; ten step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; one son in infancy, Craig Larson and a step-granddaughter, Sarah Dahlke.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at 11:00 am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin. The Rev. Rick Johnson will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
