Helen Elizabeth Wagner, Monona, Iowa, January 1, 2012
Helen Elizabeth (Connors) Wagner, 92, the daughter of James and Margaret (Galvin) Connors, was born November 26, 1919 in Stoughton, Massachusetts. She received her education and graduated from Stoughton High School. On January 25, 1948 she was united in marriage with Gerald Herbert Wagner. The couple made their home in Monona, Iowa where she became a longstanding member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. To this union six children were born; Robert, Margaret “Peggy”, Kenneth “Charlie”, James, John, and Dennis. Gerald passed away July 19, 1973. For the past eight years, Helen has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa.

Helen’s death occurred Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was ninety-two years old. Helen played field hockey in high school, which led to her love of sports; especially for the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and the New England Patriots. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, crocheting, and playing cards.

Helen is survived by her five sons, Robert (Joneita) Wagner; Kenneth “Charlie” (Cheryl) Wagner; James (Kathy) Wagner; John (Sara) Wagner; and Dennis (Ann) Wagner; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Delores Wagner of Monona; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Anderson; one grandson, Seth Tyler; two great grandchildren, Alex and Aliah; and nine siblings, James, John, William, Leo, Anna, Margaret, Catherine, and twins, Arthur and Ruth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. Rev. Greg Bahl will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Monona, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, from 4-7 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. There will be a 4 pm Rosary Service and a 7 pm Scripture Service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
