{"id":10585,"date":"2020-12-24T11:32:29","date_gmt":"2020-12-24T17:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/?p=10585"},"modified":"2020-12-27T11:19:48","modified_gmt":"2020-12-27T17:19:48","slug":"david-bruce-reichter-elkader-iowa-december-22-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/2020\/12\/david-bruce-reichter-elkader-iowa-december-22-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"David Bruce Reichter, Elkader, Iowa, December 22, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-small_image wp-image-10586 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-250x310.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-250x310.jpg 250w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-242x300.jpg 242w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-825x1024.jpg 825w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-768x953.jpg 768w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-1238x1536.jpg 1238w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-1651x2048.jpg 1651w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-750x931.jpg 750w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-400x496.jpg 400w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-1150x1427.jpg 1150w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Dave-Reichter-68x84.jpg 68w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>David Bruce Reichter, 77, of Elkader passed away on\u00a0December 22, 2020, at MercyOne Elkader Medical Center.\u00a0Dave was born on\u00a0September 18, 1943, in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Wendell and Bernice (Keen) Reichter of Goldfield, IA.<\/p>\n<p>He was raised on the family farm, attended the Methodist United Church, and graduated with the Goldfield High School class of 1961. \u00a0He then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames. \u00a0He began working for the Farmers Home Administration, later renamed Farm Service Agency, in 1965, working in the New Hampton USDA office. \u00a0It was during this time in New Hampton that he met his future wife, Cheryl Christoph. \u00a0In 1968, he was transferred to the Elkader office where he was the Farm Loan Manager. \u00a0Dave loved his job and over the years he served the farmers in Clayton, Allamakee and Dubuque counties over 48 years of service. \u00a0In 1984, he received the USDA Superior Service award in Washington, DC. \u00a0One of the things he loved the most about his job was helping young farmers get started farming. \u00a0He also enjoyed going on farm visits and talking to his customers.<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0August 9, 1969, he married Cheryl, the love of his life, and they began their happy life in Elkader. \u00a0They purchased a farm in 1976, and were happy to become farmers once more, in addition to his USDA job. \u00a0On\u00a0July 14, 1974, their son, Brian David, was born and their family became complete.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the things that Dave enjoyed other than farming and his job with the USDA, was participating in horse shows during the 1970&#8217;s and early 1980&#8217;s. \u00a0He also enjoyed playing cards in a card club with special friends for over 40 years, going on car cruises in their red Mustang GT, hunting with family and friends, and watching sports games , cheering for the ISU Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Vikings and the Packers. \u00a0The thing that made him happiest was watching his son, Brian, play sports and in later years he loved watching his three grandchildren participate in all of their sports games and other activities. \u00a0They were his pride and joy.<\/p>\n<p>Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl; his son Brian and his wife, Kim (Fitzgerald) Reichter; his three grandchildren, Abby, Blake and Cael, of Hawkeye, IA;\u00a0in-laws Jackie Reichter of Goldfield, John (Gladys) Christoph, Dave (Bern) Christoph, Steve (Mary) Christoph, Marj (Dennis) Troyna, all of New Hampton, Rosanne (Dennis) Wilke of Altoona, Donna (Len) Huegel of LaCrescent, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his parents;\u00a0 his in-laws, Herbert and Marceile Christoph; his brother, Dean; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and a nephew.<\/p>\n<p><em>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to MercyOne Elkader Medical Center or Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A public graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2020 at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.
