\"\"Allene\u00a0 Audean (Wagner) Matt, 94, Solon, Iowa, formerly of Elkader, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the Solon Retirement Village in Solon, Iowa.\u00a0 She was born January 10, 1927, in Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Louis M. and Cordelia (Vorwald) Wagner.\u00a0 Allene was raised in Elkader and graduated from Elkader High School in 1944 and Elkader Junior College in 1946.<\/p>\n

On July 17, 1946, Allene was united in marriage to Donald Edwin Matt of Garnavillo, Iowa, at St. Joseph\u2019s Catholic Church, Elkader.\u00a0 They resided in Elkader and raised three children.\u00a0 During the early years, Allene worked as a telephone operator and later as an antique dealer.\u00a0 She owned and operated her own antique business for more than 30 years. \u00a0Allene was a member of the St. Joseph\u2019s Church and St. Joseph\u2019s Guild.\u00a0 She enjoyed travels with her husband in pursuit of a good antique discovery and visits with her family. During the last 12 years of her life, she lived in senior retirement communities in the Iowa City area close to her oldest daughter, Cheryl.<\/p>\n

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Cheryl Reinhardt of Iowa City, Iowa, Diane (David) Synhorst of New Providence, New Jersey and, David (Jennifer) Matt of Cresco, Iowa;\u00a0 five grandchildren, Matthew (Alison) Reinhardt of Urbandale, Iowa, Meredith (Joel) Dobson of Pella, Iowa, Michael (Lauren) Synhorst of Summit, New Jersey, Rachel (Chris Dove) Matt of Redwood City, California and Janelle Matt of Driggs, Idaho; six great grandchildren, Megan Reinhardt, Jacob Reinhardt, Zachary Dobson, Anna Dobson, Derek Synhorst and Cooper Synhorst.<\/p>\n

Allene was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Cordelia Wagner; husband, Donald Matt; son-in-law, Frank Reinhardt; brother-in-laws, Lloyd Matt and William Mallory; and, sister-in-laws Mary Jane Schreiter and Marlis Matt.<\/p>\n

A memorial gravesite service and inurnment will be held at the St. Joseph\u2019s Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa, at a later date.\u00a0 Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52240.<\/p>\n

The family wishes to thank the staff at Solon Retirement Village, Memory Unit, Solon, Iowa, and Legacy Senior Living, Iowa City, Iowa, for their devoted care and support of our mother during the final chapter of her life.<\/p>\n
