{"id":12286,"date":"2021-11-29T11:27:34","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T17:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/?p=12286"},"modified":"2021-12-03T09:32:00","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T15:32:00","slug":"albert-allen-butikofer-west-union-iowa-formerly-of-elgin-iowa-november-29-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/2021\/11\/albert-allen-butikofer-west-union-iowa-formerly-of-elgin-iowa-november-29-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Albert Allen Butikofer, West Union, Iowa formerly of Elgin, Iowa, November 29, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-small_image wp-image-12296 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower-250x324.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower-250x324.jpg 250w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower-400x519.jpg 400w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower-68x88.jpg 68w, https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/butikofer-flower.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Albert Allen Butikofer, age 92, died November 29, 2021, at the Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, IA.\u00a0 Albert was born to Marie (Schupbach) and Albert Butikofer, Sr. on October 28, 1929.\u00a0 He attended the Cheery Valley country school.\u00a0 On April 2, 1950, he was baptized and joined the Apostolic Christian Church, where he served as a song leader for many years.\u00a0 In 1951-52, Albert and his brother Bert served their country together in Korea as non-combatants in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.<\/p>\n<p>Albert married LaVerne Ida Fischer (Roanoke, IL) on August 7, 1966.\u00a0 They farmed together on the Butikofer home place southeast of Elgin, IA for 33 years, producing crops, livestock, and honey.\u00a0 In May of 2000, they moved to Elgin and lived there until moving to Copper Creek Senior Living in January of 2021. Albert will be remembered for his wit and strong convictions, both of which he retained to the very end.<\/p>\n<p>Albert is survived by his six children &#8211; Tom (Darla) Butikofer of Clermont, IA, Betty (Kent) Getz of Elgin, IA, Sandy (Jim) Knobloch of West Bend, IA, Jim (Diana) Butikofer of Marion, IA, Gene Butikofer, and Heidi Butikofer of Elgin, IA; 22 grandchildren &#8211; Sydney (Christopher) Alvarez, Valerie, Luke, and Lance Butikofer &#8211; Tierra (Jesse) Kaeb, Oren, Bahlor, Levi, Silas, Joel, Emily, and Titus Getz &#8211; Jordan (Erica) Knobloch, Andrea (Harrison) Frank, Larae, and Jed Knobloch &#8211; Kyla (Jonny) Reinhard, Garett, Wyatt, Larissa, Mitchell, and Tanner Butikofer; seven great-grandchildren; and three siblings &#8211; Paul Butikofer, William Butikofer, and Shirley Nester.<\/p>\n<p>Albert was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne; their infant daughter, Heather; and six siblings &#8211; Anna, Harry, Reuben, Elizabeth Moore, Bert, and Ruth Wiegand.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Apostolic Christian Fellowship Center (church basement) in Elgin, Iowa.
