Betty Ann Meyer was born at home in Austin, Minnesota to Leonard and Anne (Lammers) Meyer on January 1, 1939 and has considered herself first ever since.\u00a0 She attended Queen of Angels elementary school and graduated from St. Augustine High School (Pacelli) in 1956.<\/p>\n<p>Betty spent four years working at St. Mary\u2019s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota as a CNA. While in Rochester she met her dancing partner for life.\u00a0 On June 6, 1959 Betty married Robert John Scott at Queen of Angels in Austin, Minnesota.\u00a0 To this union five children were born; Dan (Jennifer), Kelly (Mary), Jim (Angie), Julie (Marty) and Kristyn (Barry).\u00a0 They moved many times in their early married lives as her husband was a teacher and coach at several different schools.\u00a0 In 1968 they moved to West Union, Iowa and this is where they made their life.<\/p>\n<p>Betty&#8217;s working career in West Union had her begin with babysitting and food demonstrations at Traegers and Bostroms.\u00a0 She then took a fulltime job at Brown\u2019s Department Store (Tierney\u2019s) where she was the manager of the shoe department for twenty years; she can still tell a shoe size of anyone she meets and she knows good shoes (even if she would never pay for good shoes!).\u00a0 Her final career change was working at Red Heart Pizza for six years.<\/p>\n<p>Her family kept her busy as she had children in school from 1965-1996.\u00a0 She followed them closely in all of their school activities and those of her husband&#8217;s teams (being a mom to many).<\/p>\n<p>Betty herself was active in her church and community.\u00a0 She served as a lector at church as well as a Eucharistic Minister along with being a member of the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, Legion Auxiliary, Civic Club, Hospital Unit.\u00a0 As the Queen Bee of the Red Hats, she volunteered at Stony Brook, Good Samaritan, and Prairie View.\u00a0 Betty was named the West Union Volunteer of the Year in 2009 which she was so happy and grateful to receive.<\/p>\n<p>Betty was a friend to everyone, to know her was to love her and she knew no stranger.\u00a0 She was a mother to more than just her own with several foster children, hosting Spanish foreign exchange students and loving all of Bob\u2019s athletes.\u00a0 Her wit was always present and she was seldom outdone.\u00a0 Betty made those around her happy and you rarely left a visit with Betty without a good laugh.\u00a0 Betty and Bob enjoyed traveling; including multiple cruises and trips to Europe, however Las Vegas was always a favorite for Betty &#8211; any trip to a casino was a day well loved by Betty!\u00a0 She has spent the last year and a half at Stony Brook Village in West Union making new friends and spending time with old.\u00a0 At Stony Brook she enjoyed scooping the loop, sitting outside with her friends and keeping the staff on their toes.\u00a0 Betty loved her children but would always make it known she <i>really<\/i> loved her grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>She will be remembered for her love of the Hallmark channel, music and dancing with Bob, a cup of extra hot coffee or chai, a good roll, maybe a toot or two, reading Our Iowa to find those \u201ci\u2019s\u201d first, and speech to text that never came out just right (again giving a laugh or two).\u00a0 Betty loved all and welcomed all with a wish for everyone to do the same. Her presence will be missed by many and we hope her love carries us through.<\/p>\n<p>Left to cherish her memory are her five children and spouses, sixteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren with two more on the way; her siblings, (Jerry, Karon, Karol and Lynda), other family as well as her many friends.\u00a0 Bob was waiting with open arms in heaven for his dancing partner.\u00a0 Preceding in her death were her parents, Leonard and Ann; her in-laws, Marshall and Elizabeth and\u00a0 brothers, Larry and Terry and friends who passed before their time.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers the family ask that you please make a donation to Stony Brook Village in West Union or to Gunderson Palmer Hospice in her honor.\u00a0 The Scott family is forever grateful for the loving care our mom received at Stony Brook, from Gunderson Palmer Hospice and her friends who created friendships we wish we all had.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev.
