Luther Lorain Pugh, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family.<\/p>\n

He was born November 4, 1933 to Lorain Aldon Quinn and Lucille May (Stocks) Pugh.\u00a0 Luther spent most of his childhood growing up on a farm between Littleport and Mederville, and graduated from Littleport High School.<\/p>\n

Luther met the love of his life Marilyn West at the Mederville Dance Hall; deeply falling in love and later marrying on November 24, 1954. During this union three children were born. Over the years Luther and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to the various western states and fishing on the Mississippi River.\u00a0 Yellowstone National Park and Devil\u2019s Tower were two of their favorite travel visits. Luther was a jack of all trades and worked 29 years as the Maintenance Engineer for the Starmont School District before retirement.<\/p>\n

Luther was a quiet, gentle man, a caring and loving husband and a father who enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren in any way that he could.\u00a0 He was well known for possessing various talents that he was eager to share.\u00a0 He will be greatly missed by his family for his humor and stories of the \u2018good old days\u2019.<\/p>\n

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of 68 years; children, Joddy (Kenny) Roys, Elkader, Iowa, Janeane (Randy) Vorwald, Elgin, Iowa, and Victor (Lori) Pugh, Earlville, Iowa; two sisters, Linda Smock, East Dubuque, Illinois and Loretta Waterman, Elkader, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.\u00a0 He was predeceased in death by his parents, 4 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.<\/p>\n

Private family services are being planned.<\/p>\n

The family requests all memorials go to Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, Iowa.<\/p>\n

The family would also like to thank the staff of Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospice of West Union for their compassionate care.<\/p>\n

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.<\/p>\n
