Floyd Dean Possehl of Elkader, Iowa died December 6, 2023, at the Elkader Care Center.\u00a0 Floyd was born January 6, 1939, to Rudy and Rosalyn (Frieden) Possehl at the home farm near Elkader.\u00a0 He was baptized and confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader.\u00a0 Floyd attended Boardman Township Country School and graduated from Elkader High School in 1958.<\/p>\n
Floyd was united in marriage to Janice Lamker of Elkader on May 6, 1961, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. To this union two children were born, Robert and Kent. Floyd started working at Dubuque Pack in Dubuque, Iowa.\u00a0 The family moved back to Elkader in July of 1963.\u00a0 Floyd started working for Theis Clothing that same month and worked at Theis Clothing for 39 years.\u00a0 He bought into the business and later owned the store before his retirement in 2003.<\/p>\n
In Elkader, Floyd was part of many organizations. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and served on the church council, pastor relations committee, and sang in the choir for many years.\u00a0 Floyd also coached his boys\u2019 baseball teams, helped lead the Worthwhile 4-H Club, sang in the barbershop chorus, and member of the Jaycee\u2019s for several years.<\/p>\n
Floyd enjoyed golfing, bowling, and watching his boys play sports.\u00a0 He also was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Coe College basketball. \u00a0Floyd was the announcer at the Central High football games for many years.\u00a0 He kept the records for the family\u2019s purebred hog business and, with Janice\u2019s help, showed pigs at the National Hog Show in Austin, Minnesota.<\/p>\n
Floyd is survived by his wife, Janice.\u00a0 They enjoyed 62 years together. He is also survived by sons Robert (Jean) Possehl of McKinney, TX, and son Kent (Angie) Possehl of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Ellen (Jacob) Whitehurst of McKinney, TX, Scott Possehl of Austin, TX, Paige Possehl of Ft. Myers, FL, Spencer Possehl of Cedar Rapids, IA; great grandchildren Noah and Rhett Whitehurst; brother Rudy (Donna) Possehl of Goodyear, AZ; sisters-in-law, Elaine Possehl, Monona and Amber Possehl, Eau Claire, WI; brother-in-law Dean (Darlene) Lamker of Golden Valley, MN.<\/p>\n
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Rosalyn Possehl, brother Bill Possehl, brother Rollin Possehl and sister-in-law, Dorothy Possehl.<\/p>\n
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mercy One Ambulance Fund – Elkader, Iowa or Peace United Church of Christ Memorial Fund\u2013 Elkader, Iowa.<\/p>\n
Funeral Services: Saturday, December 16, 2023 – 11:00 AM at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, with Pastor Paula Anderson officiating<\/p>\n
Visitation: Saturday, December 16, 2023 – 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader<\/p>\n
Interment: East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa<\/p>\n
