Lynn Harriet Hall was born in Lombard, Illinois on November 9, 1937, the second daughter of Ray and Alice Hall.\u00a0 She passed away at the Elkader Care Center on December 30, 2023, at the age of 86.<\/p>\n

\"\"When Lynn\u00a0was 9 years old, her family moved to West Des Moines, Iowa where she later graduated from Valley High School.\u00a0 She worked for an advertising agency and also for a veterinarian, while at the same time honing her skills as a fiction writer.\u00a0 Lynn was not a \u201ccity girl\u201d and after her first book was published she decided she wanted to live a more quiet life.\u00a0 She spent a whole summer driving around Iowa in search of the perfect spot to settle down.\u00a0 She found that perfect place in northeast Iowa, near Elkader.<\/p>\n

She purchased an acreage and built her dream home which she called \u201cTouchwood\u201d.\u00a0 The rural life suited her just fine.\u00a0 She wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by the beautiful Iowa countryside and the companionship of her dogs.\u00a0 She was inspired to write more than 80 books during her many years at Touchwood.\u00a0 Dog stories, horse\u00a0stories, mysteries.\u00a0 Her books were very popular with millions of pre-teen readers for decades.\u00a0 One of her books, \u201cSticks and Stones\u201d earned an award for excellence in\u00a0juvenile literature from the American Library Association.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, when Lynn\u2019s vision began to fail and driving became more difficult, she moved into town and\u00a0spent her final years in her\u00a0little house on First St. NW.<\/p>\n

Lynn is survived by her sisters, Jan Hall of Des Moines and Lois Kahler of Cedar Rapids, three nieces and extended family.\u00a0 She will also be greatly missed by her dear friend, Pamm Geuder of Volga.<\/p>\n

No services are planned \u2013 A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4PM to 7PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Crematory in Elkader.<\/p>\n
