She graduated from North High School in West Union in 1960 and was united in marriage to Dale Patterson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union on May 28, 1960. To this union were born two children, a daughter Trudy and a son Troy.<\/p>\n<p>Dale and Beverly made their first home in Tripoli, Iowa and Beverly attended Youngs School of Beauty in Waterloo, Iowa.\u00a0 After graduation, she managed a beauty shop in Fayette and worked in a beauty shop in Tripoli.\u00a0 Dale and Beverly then moved to Postville, Iowa where Beverly continued to work as a hair dresser. In 1967, the couple moved back to West Union and Beverly worked as a nurse\u2019s aide at Palmer Memorial Hospital for several years.\u00a0 She then left the hospital to work at Schwan\u2019s in West Union, but soon realized her passion for nursing and returned to school at Northeast Iowa Community College.\u00a0 She graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1981. Beverly spent the next 33 years in a nursing career she truly loved at Palmer Memorial Hospital.\u00a0 She practiced in all areas of the hospital, concentrating most of her time in the Urgent Care Clinic during her last few years at Palmer. \u00a0She retired in September 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and valued the community, friendship and social activities she found with her church family.\u00a0 She loved to travel and enjoyed several vacations to South Dakota and Branson, Missouri with her husband and traveling partner, Dale.\u00a0 More recently, Beverly was thrilled to move into her new house where she enjoyed her first dishwasher in 80 years.\u00a0 Beverly loved to garden and can fresh produce.\u00a0 She always stayed busy and looked forward to social activities and time spent with her many friends.\u00a0 She especially enjoyed going to garage sales.\u00a0 And most of all, Beverly cherished time spent with her loving family.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly is survived by her children Trudy (Steve) Belay of Des Moines, Iowa and Troy (Debbie) Patterson of Burlington, Iowa; sisters Donna Barker of West Union, and Diane (Jack) Wenthe of Smithsburg, Maryland; five grandchildren, Jake (Bre) Belay of Grimes, Iowa, Katie Belay of West Des Moines, Iowa, Zach Patterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Emma Patterson of Wichita, Kansas, and Tyler Patterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandchildren Lucas and Henry Belay of Grimes, Iowa; sister-in-law Laurie Thompson of West Union, and several special nieces and nephews.\u00a0 Beverly is also survived by her beloved dog and companion, Daisy.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dale of 53 years; brothers Dale Thompson, Les Thompson, and Kenny Thompson; parents Floyd and Florence (Bergeson) Thompson; mother and father-in-law Floyd and Hattie (Kerr) Patterson; and grandparents Alfred and Martha (Watne) Bergeson and Albert and Helen (Bergan) Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home, 212 E. Elm St., West Union, Iowa 52175. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church,407 W Bradford St., West Union, Iowa with Pastor Rusty Phillips officiating.<\/p>\n<p>Interment will take place at the West Union City Cemetery immediately following the service.<\/p>\n<p>Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beverly Ann (Thompson) Patterson, age 81, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at her home in West Union, Iowa.\u00a0 Beverly was born at home on October 12,1942 on a farm by Eldorado, Iowa to Floyd and Florence (Bergeson) Thompson.
