Dale was born September 8, 1931 to Elmer and Maude (Sprague) Halverson on a farm near Calmar, Iowa. Dale graduated from West Union High School in 1949. He attended Boys State and was the Homecoming King.<\/p>\n<p>Dale was united in marriage with Lois Ann Hegland on October 8, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church.\u00a0 Lois passed away in January of 1986. Dale was then united in marriage with Marjorie Marie (Quinn) Dunt on May 16, 1992. Dale was confirmed in the Methodist church and after his marriage to Lois, became a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church.\u00a0 Dale was unable to locate a record of his original baptism and renewed his baptism on April 19, 2009 at Zion, surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Dale farmed west of West Union for many years and also worked as Fayette County Clerk of Court for fifteen years, retiring in 1996. Dale was a member of the West Union Lion\u2019s Club, Zion Lutheran Church Council, Iowa Corn Growers Association and was a longtime member of the Iowa Cattleman\u2019s Association. He was passionate about family and music, singing his first solo at nine years old for his teacher\u2019s wedding and he continued singing for weddings, baptisms, funerals and family events. He participated in \u201cThe Messiah\u201d for many years. Dale received an outstanding young religious leader award and served on the North High School Board for several years.\u00a0 Many of his children were handed their diplomas by Dale on their graduation day.<\/p>\n<p>Dale is survived by his wife, Marjorie; six children, Jane (Gene) Ott of Winton, Minnesota, Mark (Pam Stanbrough) Halverson of Wadena, Iowa, Kent (Bonnie Martin) Halverson of West Union, Iowa, Bradley (Lori McIntyre) Halverson of Hawkeye, Iowa, David (Debra Amdahl) Halverson of Hawkeye, Iowa and Eric Halverson of West Union, Iowa; Marge\u2019s children, Jack (Sue McKay) Dunt of Reno, Nevada, Mary (Dunt) Buenzow of Waseca, Minnesota, William (Joyce Mork) Dunt of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Brian (Kathy Schmitt) Dunt of West Union, Iowa, Steven (Linda Solheim) Dunt of West Union, Iowa, Dean (Jana Cochran) Dunt of Urbandale, Iowa, Karen (Dunt) Kime of Sac City, Iowa and Ron (Krista Moser) Dunt of Hampton, Iowa; thirty- one grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Dale was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; parents, Elmer and Maude Halverson; grandson, Travis Halverson; brothers, Arthur, Earl and Vern Halverson; and sisters, Zelda Halverson, Ethel Patterson and Edna Beermann.<\/p>\n<p>Dale was a hard worker but he knew the importance of relaxing.\u00a0 He enjoyed boating, camping and golfing; times he shared with his family.\u00a0 He rarely missed a sporting, musical, or County Fair event where his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren participated.\u00a0 Dale was loved and respected by his family and all who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be held 4-7 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa with a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral Services will be 10:30 am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Adam Starrett as the Officiant.<\/p>\n<p>Inurnment will follow at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dale Dwight Halverson, 86, of West Union, Iowa died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.
