She enjoyed ice skating on the Turkey River and cross-country skiing around the farm and woods nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Paula was united in marriage with Paul Dean Bement of West Union, Iowa in 1948 and they lived in a cute quonset house on Cherry Street in West Union, Iowa. \u00a0Her first child, Paul Dean, was stillborn.\u00a0 Afterwards, she had Paul Garry Bement and Kenneth Dean Bement.\u00a0 Her husband Paul passed away in 1967.\u00a0 Paula had another bouncing baby boy, Jeremy Leroy Bement. After marrying Dennis Robert Ege, she finally had her first girl, Kerrilee Roberta Ege in 1975. In 1976, the family moved to Main Street in Hawkeye.<\/p>\n<p>Paula was a very hard worker.\u00a0 She cleaned houses for folks and also did interior painting and wall papering.\u00a0 She had a large garden at home as well as smaller flower gardens around the house. Paula is best known for her large cactus collection and for her cake decorating.\u00a0 She was actually interviewed by the Waterloo Courier newspaper for her cactus collection.\u00a0 Cake decorating was a special hobby of hers.\u00a0 She did cakes for all occasions and her gift to some family members for weddings was the cake! Paula also enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and had quite the collection.\u00a0 Finally, one of her greatest joys was hosting family get-togethers.\u00a0 She hosted all the main holidays, including the summer family picnic at Backbone State Park in Strawberry Point.<\/p>\n<p>Paula is survived by one sister; Glenice Thompson of Decorah, Iowa, her sons; Paul (Tina) Bement of Auburn, Iowa and Jeremy (Lynn) Bement of Burnsville, Minnesota; daughter-in law, Karen Bement of Elgin, Iowa; and daughter Kerrilee (Keith) Bunge of Redmond, Washington, along with many grandkids and great-grandkids who were her pride and joy.<\/p>\n<p>Paula also wrote many poems and many were published.\u00a0 A poem she wrote that was published in the poetry book, <u>Impressions,<\/u> published in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Luncheon and fellowship will be held after the visitation at the American Legion, West Union, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a private family inurnment at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Auburn, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"border-radius: 2px; text-indent: 20px; width: auto; padding: 0px 4px 0px 0px; text-align: center; font: bold 11px\/20px 'Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,sans-serif; color: #ffffff; background: #bd081c  no-repeat scroll 3px 50% \/ 14px 14px; position: absolute; opacity: 1; z-index: 8675309; display: none; cursor: pointer; top: 28px; left: 20px;\">Save<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paula Charlotte Ege, 86, of Hawkeye, Iowa passed away peacefully after a short five-month stay at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
