Jean Edna Phillips was born on March 28, 1925, in Conover part of Winneshiek County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edward and Mollie (Hines), Phillips. She married Thomas Francis O’Hare, Jr. on April 7, 1945, in Decorah, Iowa. Jean and Tom lived in Cedar Rapids where they worked at Collins Radio for a short time before returning to Decorah and eventually Waukon. They farmed in French Creek Township, Hanover area and in 1968 moved to Waukon. Jean\u2019s days were spent as a busy homemaker to her large family until all the children were in school. She then worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon for 15 years. In her retirement, she babysat area children and her grandchildren. All the grandchildren and great grandchildren have many fond memories of Grandma\u2019s house.\u00a0 They were often treated to her homemade cookies and pancakes. Jean also enjoyed gathering with her brothers and sisters. The visits with her nieces and nephews were a highlight of her day. Jean was an avid gardener and had a green thumb when it came to taking care of plants.\u00a0 She was well known for her home-made noodles and bread along with her famous baked beans. She would never turn down a game of cards or a cup of coffee with cream.<\/p>\n
Jean has been a member of St Patrick\u2019s church in Waukon for over 50 years and a former member of St. Mary\u2019s in Hanover.<\/p>\n
Jean was survived by her children, Michael (Virginia) O\u2019Hare of Lansing, IA, Barbara (Maynard) DePuew of Las Vegas, NV, Patricia (Ronald) Jones of St. Louis, MO, Robert (Sally) O\u2019Hare of Waverly, IA, Ricky (Nancy) O\u2019Hare of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Marsha (Mike) Allen of Onalaska, WI , Deb Winke of Waukon, IA, Karen (Randy) Weber of Lansing, IA, Greg (Tracy) O\u2019Hare of St. Louis, MO, Kristine (Mark) Platte of Mount Vernon, IA, Scott (Pam) O\u2019Hare of West Union, IA. 28 Grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, 2 sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Ray (Karen) O\u2019Hare of Waukon.<\/p>\n
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas on April 7, 2006 and 10 brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12, 2018 from 9-11 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Waukon, Iowa.<\/p>\n
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 12, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Waukon, Iowa with Rev. Mark Osterhaus as the Celebrant.<\/p>\n
Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Hanover, Iowa.<\/p>\n
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jean’s honor may be sent to Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home, PO Box 973, Monona, Iowa 52159.<\/p>\n
