\"\"Donald Meyer Heins, 87, of Postville Iowa died Friday, July 13, 2018 at St. Luke\u2019s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Donald Meyer was born April 6, 1931 to Leo and Mabel (Meyer) Heins at the home farm, Postville, Iowa. He was baptized on May 31, 1931 and confirmed in April 1945. Don graduated from Postville High School. In high school, Don participated in both basketball and football. In his senior year, Don\u2019s football team went undefeated and unscored upon. \u00a0Later in life, Don was inducted into the Postville Athletic Hall of Fame. He \u201cserved\u201d one day in the United States Army. Due to impaired hearing, he was unable to pass the physical requirements for the military.<\/p>\n

Don was united in marriage with DeElta Buraas on August 27, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He worked as a farmer his entire life and was also a salesman for Trojan Seed Corn and livestock supplements. Don was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, the Tri-City Golf Club, president of D.H.I.H (Dairy Herd Implement Association), Postville Bowling Association-Hall of Fame, Elk\u2019s Club #2495 in Florida BPOE, and also a member of the Eagles Club in Florida. \u00a0He lived on the home farm from 1931 to 1977, then moved to a house near the Tri-City Golf course until 1993, before moving to his home in Luana. He also wintered in Sarasota, Florida. Don enjoyed many hobbies.\u00a0 He loved sports, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and dancing with his beloved wife, DeElta.<\/p>\n

Don is survived by his children, Jamie (Lyle) Schulte of Swisher, Iowa and Jill (Mike) Haire of North Port, Florida; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Christian) Mangelsen of Wheaton, Il , Tyler Heins of Vail, CO, Austin Haire and Dillon (Emily) Haire of North Port, FL; two great-grandchildren, Gracyn and Drew; one sister, Dorothy (Ray) Suckow; other family members, Dean (Laurel) Ohloff, Aaron (Stephanie) Ohloff, Seth (Beth) Ohloff, and Arica Ohloff and son, Dawson; and countless nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mabel Heins; wife, DeElta on September 27, 2008; and two sisters, Marilyn Radloff and Ramona Everman.<\/p>\n

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 16, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.<\/p>\n

Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.<\/p>\n
