Vern had been working for the Chicago Livestock and they met while he was in Eastern Iowa.\u00a0 They lived for a short period in Tipton and then moved to Guttenberg where Vern was involved in the livestock business and ultimately owned Kuenster Stockyards in Farmersburg and Luana for over forty years.<\/p>\n<p>Joyce and Vern lived for over sixty years in their home outside of Farmersburg and raised their five children there.\u00a0 She had a great eye for design, loved decorating and spent her spare time wallpapering, painting and re-wallpapering and painting, and generally moving things around until they were exactly what she liked.\u00a0 She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, antiques, estate sales, junk stores, shopping, and eating out.\u00a0 She knew her way around the best antique and craft stores in the area and also worked for a period of time at the former Buttery in Elkader.<\/p>\n<p>After Vern\u2019s retirement, they spent many summers at their property on the Ambro Island in Prairie du Chien.\u00a0 While she was not a water fan (did not know how to swim) she joined Vern in the fishing boat always wearing a life vest.\u00a0 She also shopped all of her favorite spots in Prairie while there and enjoyed many dinners and parties with the community there.<\/p>\n<p>Joyce was a member of St John\u2019s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg for over fifty years.\u00a0 She served many years with the women\u2019s organization of the church and had many wonderful friends there.\u00a0 After Vern\u2019s death in August of 2013, she moved to Monona and after a short stint in Arizona, in 2016 moved into Garden View Senior Community until May of this year.\u00a0 During this time, she was able to travel more, and visit children and grandchildren in North Carolina, Illinois, California, &amp; Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Vera Johnson and her loving husband Vern.\u00a0 She is survived by her five children who she cared for and loved; Linda Kuenster of Surprise ,Arizona, Sue and Bill Baaden, Newport Beach, \u00a0California, Jill and Steven Hill of Oswego, Illinois, Scott\u00a0 Kuenster of Boone, Iowa, and Steven and Denise Kuenster of Farmersburg; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 21, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at St John\u2019s Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Burial will be in Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, Iowa on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers memorial can be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joyce Ann Kuenster (86)\u00a0 of Farmersburg, Iowa passed on to heaven on Friday August 17, 2018 at the Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, Iowa.\u00a0\u00a0 She was born on July 19, 1932 in Moline Illinois, the only child of Roy and Vera Johnson.\u00a0 She moved with her parents to Tipton, Iowa and grew up in the home [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":5781,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[500],"class_list":["post-5777","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-obituaries","tag-kuenster"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5777","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5777"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5777\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5788,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5777\/revisions\/5788"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/5781"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5777"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5777"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/graufuneralhomes.com\/lab\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5777"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
