He passed away at Veteran\u2019s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa with family by his side on February 23, 2019 at the age of 91 following a brief illness. He was baptized in Elkader, Iowa on June 19, 1927 and confirmed at St. Paul\u2019s Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa on May 17, 1940 by Frederick R. Ludwig.\u00a0 He attended the Springfield Country School and Graduated from Postville High School in 1945.<\/p>\n<p>Doc enlisted in the Army and served as a med tech, and was stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served in the Army starting September 21, 1945 and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946. Doc then returned to Postville. While serving in the army he was awarded the Honorable Service Lapel Button and the WW II Victory Medal.<\/p>\n<p>When Doc returned from the Army he began his business of Don\u2019s Radio and TV in Postville. This he did up until his death. During this time of having his business he was also busy with supplying local fairs and horse shows with their sound systems for their events. He was the owner of the Car wash in Postville from 1992-2015. He was a member of the Postville Fire Department from 1967-1993 and was known as the \u201cRadio Man\u201d. He served the Postville Community School District as a bus driver for 36 years.\u00a0 He was a member of the \u201cOdd Fellows Organization\u201d and sacked candy bags for the children who came to see Santa at Christmas time. Back in the days he could be found climbing hills with his motorcycle and at one time he took Aunt Sadie for a wild ride in the side car.\u00a0 Other numerous fun times were had with him \u201cSupervising\u201d the firewood cutting and splitting gatherings, the Family Potato Pancake Suppers on the old stove, and the projects that always seemed to turn out to be \u201cfamily\u201d projects. He enjoyed taking trips up North to go fishing, golf outings to the Luana Golf Course with Burr Cook. He also enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends, and even those he just met. He enjoyed mowing lawn, gardening, listening to the Little Dale Show on Saturday mornings on KNEI, watching westerns and the show Pawn Stars. Two other things that he enjoyed were BOCK Beer and Limburger cheese.\u00a0 He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include brothers, Frederick \u201dFritz\u201d Meyer of Monona, Iowa; sisters, Joan Plaht of Postville, Iowa, Marlene (Willis) Livingood of Postville, Iowa, and Darlene (Harlan) White of Postville, Iowa; nieces and Nephews, Kathryn (Dale) Westendorf, Linda (Donnie) Muchow, Terry (Robin) Meyer, Michael (Linda) Plaht, Randy (Cindy) Plaht, Bradley Plaht, Larry Plaht, Mark Meyer, Bryan Livingood, Brent (Emily) Livingood, Lisa (Bill) Bullerman, Jason (Bridget) White and Sara White and many great nieces and nephews and extended family.<\/p>\n<p>Doc was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard (Darlene) Meyer, Harold \u201cHoot\u201d (Doris) Meyer, Roland \u201cRolly\u201d Meyer, Gerald \u201cPete\u201d (Sharon) Meyer; brother-in-law, Harvey Plaht; sister-in-law, Shirley Meyer; niece, Sally Meyer and nephew, Scott Plaht.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral Service with Military Rites will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev.
