LaVerne Arthur Bushman, 95, of Ossian, Iowa died Sunday, August 18, 2019 at his home in Ossian.\u00a0 He was born August 6, 1924 to Bernard and Christina (Bodensteiner) Bushman in Ossian, Iowa.\u00a0 Laverne attended country school.<\/p>\nLaVerne Arthur Bushman, 95, of Ossian, Iowa died Sunday, August 18, 2019 at his home in Ossian.\u00a0 He was born August 6, 1924 to Bernard and Christina (Bodensteiner) Bushman in Ossian, Iowa.\u00a0 Laverne attended country school.<\/p>\n
LaVerne was united in marriage with Rita Brinks on November 20, 1951 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa.\u00a0 He farmed for 32 years near Festina, chopping and filling silos for the neighbors. After the barn burnt down in 1984, LaVerne retired from farming and moved to Ossian, Iowa.\u00a0 LaVerne worked as a Janitor at De Sales Catholic School in Ossian, Iowa along with his wife Rita until their retirement in 2002.\u00a0 He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for 75 years. LaVerne enjoyed traveling with friends, square dancing, polka, listening to Daniel O\u2019Donnell CDs, eating pie, tinkering in his garage, was a great story teller, loved telling jokes, and watching Dr. Phil.<\/p>\n
LaVerne is survived by two children, Susie (Clete Christianson) Thorson of Elgin, Iowa and Steve (Ann) Bushman of Ft. Atkinson, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Corey (Amy) Thorson, Sheena (Bill) Bouzek, Dustin (Jaimie) Thorson, Brent (Ashley) Bushman, Jessie Bushman, Nicole Bushman, Daniel (Leta) Hageman and Elissa (Mark) Jacobs; twenty-two\u00a0 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita on February 16, 2014; his parents, Bernard and Christine Bushman; one son in infancy; and his siblings, Marie Emery, Peter, Edward, Rose Huinker, Albert, Evelyn Liebold, Raymond, John, and Henrietta Krumm.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm with a 4:00 pm Rosary on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Gross as the Celebrant.<\/p>\n
Inurnment will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.<\/p>\n
