Cleo Joseph Heying passed away on April 16, 2020 surrounded by his wife and children after a short battle with cancer.\u00a0 He was born in Ossian, IA to Peter Joseph and Agnes (Bohr) Heying on November 11, 1938, one of twelve children.\u00a0 After graduating 8th<\/sup> grade and attending two years of high school he stayed home to help on the family farm.<\/p>\n Cleo married Emily Ida Schmitt on September 15, 1959.\u00a0 Together they have raised seven children and have fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.\u00a0 They farmed and milked dairy cattle for over fifty years on a farm just East of Postville.\u00a0 Cleo also took on many other 2nd<\/sup> and 3rd<\/sup> jobs to help support his family over the years.\u00a0 After the barn burned in 1998, he raised crops, helped other farmers and drove a school bus.\u00a0 He served on the board(s) of the Postville Fire Department and Big Four Fair. He was very proud and hardworking.\u00a0\u00a0 In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, dancing and playing golf as well as spending time with his family and friends.\u00a0 He was beloved by his family and all who knew him enjoyed his sense of humor and playfulness.<\/p>\n He is survived by his wife, Emily (Schmitt) Heying; his seven children, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Galen, Fort Mill, SC; Wes (Julie) Monona, IA; children-Brandi (Dale) Crozier and McCoy, McGregor, IA; Brooke (TJ) Pierce, Lydia and Jax, Guttenberg, IA; Mitchel Livingston (Ashley Munoz) Pleasant Hill, IA, Macey (Cole) Kregel and Weston, Monona, IA;\u00a0 Cheryl Howard, Panora, IA, children-Joey (Katie) Howard and Hudson, Bondurant, IA; Tommy Howard (Kaitlin Bundt) Ankeny, IA; Deanne (Robert) Welper, Jefferson, WI, children-Cory, Chicago, IL, Matt and Ashley, Madison, WI; Scott (Kristy Koehn)Monona, IA, children- Tyler, Prairie du Chien, WI, Jordan (Tyler) Brainard, Madden and Mason, Farmersburg, IA; Craig (Dana), Monona, IA, children- Seth, San Antonio, TX and Eden, Monona, IA; Julie (Joe) Price, children-Johnathan and Jillian, Ankeny, IA. \u00a0He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce (Dick) Shindelar, Calmar, IA; Marcie (Larry) Havel; two brothers, Richard (Linda), Ossian, IA; Donald (Carolyn) Calmar, IA; \u00a0and sisters-and brothers-in-law, Marion (Irvin) Heying, Sumner, IA; Elaine (Larry) Heying, Ossian, IA; Verna and Albin Massman, Lansing, IA; Monsignor Carl Schmitt, New Hampton, IA; Floyd and Debbie Schmitt, Castalia, IA; Elaine and Roger Kleve, Cresco, IA; Ray and Nancy Schmitt, Las Vegas, NV.<\/p>\n Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Agnes (Bohr) Heying; father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Anna (Blong) Schmitt; three brothers, Hugo (Lucille) Heying, Larry Heying, and Irvin Heying; four sisters, Ruth (Ray) Langreck, Rosalyn (Eugene) Bodensteiner, Kay (Stanley) Humpal, Elsie (Donald) Timp;
