Barbara LaVonne Schultz, 82, of McGregor, Iowa died Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her home in McGregor, Iowa. Barbara LaVonne was born June 25, 1935 to Floyd Frederick and Ethel Irene (Limbeck) Huff in Marquette, Iowa. She was baptized on June 22, 1938 and confirmed on September 23, 1951 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church (Swede Ridge) Church. Barbara attended Oakland Country School, McGregor Public School, Guttenberg Public School and Mar-Mac Public School. She graduated from Mar-Mac in 1953.
Barbara was united in marriage with John “Jack” Walter Schultz on August 1, 1953 in McGregor, Iowa. Two children were born to this union. Barbara worked for Searl and Ruth Hoseley at the dress shop in McGregor, Iowa, as a waitress at the Mallard Café, factory worker at McGregor Electronics, nurse’s aide at Great River Care Center and for twenty-five years ran Pike’s Peak Concession Stand. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, McGregor, Iowa, Merry Mixers, Hoe-Downers and Hustler Square Dance Club. Barbara enjoyed all the trips to Arkansas, taking her grandchildren to the Fair and Rendezvous Days and Christmas Eve Soup Suppers. She was blessed with a precious family and a long healthy and happy life. Barbara loved early morning walks, animals, especially her cat Tigger, gardening and delivering hot meals with Alice.” I received full membership in the First Congregational Church and have had the love and support of my wonderful church family. I’m ready to walk in the light of eternal life.”
Barbara is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Schultz of McGregor, Iowa; two children, Andrew “Andy” Lee (Mary) Schultz of McGregor, Iowa and Jacalyn Jo (Michael) Schultz-Sloan of McGregor, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Michael John (Alex) Sloan of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Nicholas (Bethany) Sloan of Batesville, Arkansas, Chelsea (Jon Kruse) Sloan of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Jessica Sloan of McGregor, Iowa, Matthew (Amanda) Schultz of McGregor, Iowa, Kevin Schultz of Monona, Iowa, Nathan (Bridget) Schultz of McGregor, Iowa, Natalie (Tyler) Thompson of Monona, Iowa and Cassandra (Jerad Peak) Schultz of Boscobel, Wisconsin; ten great-grandchildren, Ollin and Jack Sloan, Levi and Brooklyn Schultz, Mason Schultz, Abram and Patrick Schultz and Tacoma, Jaxton and Brinlee Thompson; siblings, Beverly Huff of Toledo, Ohio, Judy (Jerry) Kuchenbecker of McGregor, Iowa and Terri (David) Kleinow of Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ethel Huff; sister, Mary Kurth; brother-in-law, Milton Kurth; and one nephew, Timothy Kleinow.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at First Congregational Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. William F. Gentry as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.
