Stanley Wayne Erickson, 80, of Elkader, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. He was born July 14, 1936, in Highland Township, to Albert and Ida (Wilson) Erickson. Stan attended country school then went on to Elgin High School where he graduated.
Following graduation, he worked briefly at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, and farmed with his brothers for a time. Stanley was united in marriage to Viola West on July 3, 1959. The couple was blessed with three children.
He was a farmer and enjoyed dancing, playing his guitar – especially playing at nursing homes, writing poetry, playing cards and taking the grandkids fishing. The couple has lived for over forty years in their present location west of Elkader.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, of rural Elkader; children, Judy (Alan) Glesne of Elkader, Evelyn (Kendall) Knospe of St. Olaf, Brenda (Brian) Breitsprecher of Elkader; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Albert and Bill; sisters, his two year old sister Evelyn, Priscilla Groff , Ivanelle Dennler and one grandson, Darren Knospe
Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2017 from 2-5 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader.
Inurnment will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin.
