Marleen June Heuer, Elkader, Iowa, December 22, 2016

Marleen June Heuer, 78, passed away on Thursday morning, December 22, 2016, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader after a series of illnesses.

She was born on the family farm, rural Garnavillo, on June 8, 1938, to Arno and Mabel (Kelpien) Heuer.

Marlene attended county school near her home and graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1956. She lived and worked on the farm until her recent move to Elkader. For a time she worked in Monona and Guttenberg.

Marlene was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center, where she was baptized and confirmed.

Her love of the Lord was evident in her active service, first as a Sunday school pupil then teacher and superintendent, receiving a plaque for 40 years of service. She was also a member of ELCW, altar guild and choir.

She was a member of Farm Bureau for many years, where she held many offices and was a charter member of Readlanders Club. She was selected by Clayton County Farm Bureau as Woman of the Year in 1992.

Marlene will be remembered for her kind and gentle manner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father passed away in 1986 and her mother in 1991.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on April 10, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
