Carol Remmen, age 63, of Postville, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at her home, from a heart attack. Carol Ann Remmen was born March 7, 1953, in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Lillian (Monson) Harris. Carol was baptized and confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church and graduated from Postville High School in 1971.
After putting in a full day at the Luana Farmer’s Co-op she would often head to the Luana Tap, where she met her husband, Steve Remmen. Carol and Steve married on January 29th, 1994. After many years at the co-op, Carol worked at Cherry Valley Enterprises until her retirement. Carol was an avid reader and horsewoman, spending her childhood at horse shows, always with a book in hand. Carol enjoyed traveling in her youth, and later on in life, genealogy. Carol was an animal lover and frequently cared for animals who were abandoned in the country. The sudden losses of her husband in December of 2013, her step-daughter in April of 2015 and her beloved sister Randi in April of 2016 led Carol to suffer a broken heart, which was far too much for her to bear.
Carol is survived by her brother, David (Lynn VerHelst) Harris of Stoughton, Wisconsin; nieces, Whitney (Brian) Harris Brimmer of Stoughton, Wisconsin and Chelsea Harris of Madison, Wisconsin; great-niece and great-nephew, Lillian and Leo Brimmer; step-daughters, Laurie (Cory) Ellingson of Lawler, Iowa and Carolin (Sherman Watts) Remmen of Decorah, Iowa ; step-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Humpal of Des Moines, Iowa, sister-in-law, Nancy (Bruce) Layton of Bethesda, Maryland and father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Ruth Remmen of Decorah, Iowa.
