Louis Seitz, Monona, Iowa, February 9, 2017

Louis Roy Seitz, 83, of Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader, Iowa. Louis was born April 15, 1933, in Smithfield, Iowa, to Rufus and Sybil (Cowell) Seitz. He attended school at Smithfield and at Monona High School. In 1952 to 1953, Louis served in the Army, most of which was spent in the Korean War.

In 1957, Louis married Janice Kleppe. They had five children. Janice died in 1974. In 1977, Louis married Shirley Hauan. Following the time Louis spent in the Army, he worked briefly in Dubuque before returning to the Monona area where he worked a variety of jobs: the St. Olaf Creamery for eight years, MFL Schools for twelve years and construction for nineteen years.

After he retired, Louis spent time in his shop, in his yard and at the Monona Public Gardens. He became a Cubs Fan and was happy to live long enough to see them win the World Series.

Louis is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Monona; his daughter, Janelyn (Devin) Guyer of Clermont and their family; his sons, Kent (Lissa) Seitz of Farmersburg and their family; Kevin (Lisa) Seitz of Monona and their family; Kerry Seitz of Monona; Kris (Amy) Seitz and their family of Holland, Iowa; brother-in-law, Larry Butikofer; sisters-in-law, Betty Seitz, Donna Seitz and Edith Seitz; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Anna Mae Moose and Sarah Lea Butikofer; three brothers, Earl, Dale and Leonard Seitz; two sets of parents-in-law, Peter and Ella Kleppe, and Henry and Fern Hauan; nephews, Jack Seitz and Wayne Kleppe; and in-laws, Marlys Seitz, Claud Moose, Donald and Marlys Kleppe.

Memorial donations in Louis Seitz’s honor may be made to the Monona Fire Department, Monona Ambulance or the Monona Butterfly Garden.

Inurnment will be at 12:30 pm on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Monona Community Center, Monona, Iowa from 2-5 pm on Sunday.
