Richard Allan “Dick” Schultz, 68, of Elgin, Iowa died Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home in Elgin, Iowa. He was born on September 19, 1948 to Lloyd William and Aurelia Minnie (Heins) Schultz in Postville, Iowa. Dick was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1966. Dick continued his education at the University of Iowa where he earned his Bachelor’s in Science, a Master’s Degree in Chemistry and an MBA.
Dick was united in marriage with Delores Jean Herman on July 25, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Iowa. The couple adopted two children, Jennifer and Jason. Dick worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City as a Pulmonary Lab Tech for many years. Dick was an avid volleyball player and coached girl’s volleyball. Volleyball, reading, and the study of advanced sciences were his passions throughout his life.
Dick is survived by two children, Jennifer L. Schultz (Shane Coffman, special friend) of Marion, Iowa, and Jason K. Schultz of Los Angeles, California; sisters, Arlene Pollock of Elgin, Iowa, Yvonne Landt of Clayton, Iowa, Judy Nelson (Bill Ashby, special friend) of Clermont, Iowa and Sharon (Louis) Becker of Elgin, Iowa and a host of nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, and his parents, Lloyd William and Aurelia Minnie (Heins) Schultz; brother, Velder William Schultz and three brothers-in-law, Gordon Pollock, Dean Landt and Kenny Nelson.
Dick’s life companion, traveling buddy, and source of comfort for the past eight years was his dog Bailey, ( who misses him dearly), and whom saved his life on many occassions. Bailey will be taken in by daughter Jennifer.
Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa. There will also be a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
