Colleen Ann (Guider) Berg, 74, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin formerly of Lansing, Iowa passed away on March 11, 2017 in Madison Wisconsin. Colleen was born on August 2, 1942 in Lansing Iowa to Norbert and Helen (Kohlstad) Guider. Colleen graduated from St. George High School in 1960 and attended Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Colleen was well known for her Irish humor and quick wit. She was an amazing singer. When Colleen sang, everyone stopped to listen. Her range of music included country, pop, Irish music and opera. As a child and young adult, Colleen’s passion were horses and music. She raised and trained dozens of horses. Her favorites included; Smokey, Trixie, Ginger, Buster and Stardust. Colleen’s children fondly recall her singing the many ditties that she wrote for them. “Easter Egg and a Christmas Wreath George Washington had wooden teeth ……. ”
Colleen retired after many years at American Family Insurance in Madison.
Colleen is also survived by her sons; Michael Berg of Iowa City, Iowa, Wayne Berg of Madsion, Wisconsin and Allen (Waukima) Berg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Colleen was blessed by five grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, Jack, Aaron and Emma.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Norbert Guider and Helen (Kohlstad) Guider; her brother, Patrick Guider; her sister, Donna (Guider) Leonard and her lifelong best friend and the love of her life, her husband, John Peter Berg, also preceded her in death. John and Colleen experienced many trials and travails during their nearly fifty years together. They always believed that as long as they were together, they could handle anything. John and Colleen had one of those rare relationships. They were not simply man and wife; they were best friends, confidants and partners. They truly doted on each other. Colleen found great comfort with her faith and the knowledge that they would once again be together.
Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2017 from 5-7 pm with a Scripture Service at 6:30 pm at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Saturday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing, Iowa.
