Verda Mae Palas, formerly of Farmersburg, Iowa, March 15, 2017

Verda Mae Palas, 86, formerly of Farmersburg, Iowa died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader. She was born May 23, 1930, in Farmersburg to Glendor and Wilma (Klinkenberg) Zurcher.

She was united in marriage to Gerald Palas. Four sons were born to this union. The couple farmed together. Verda served as Activities Director at the Elkader Care Center for many years. She was an Avon representative. Verda was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, where she served on numerous church groups.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and cooking.

Survivors include her sons, Jerel (friend, Julie Bentley) Palas, Jeff (Sharon) Palas, Jerome (Alice) Palas; six grandchildren, Graham and Garett (Nicole), Ethan and Olivia, Bethany and Alicia and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Korie and Lennox.

Verda was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Mabel Zurcher; husband, Gerald; son, Bennett and daughter-in-law, Rosena Palas.

Visitation: 4:30 to 6:30 – Friday March 17, 2017, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa.

A private graveside service will be held at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.
