Lois Lissette Winter, 90, of West Union, Iowa died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, Iowa. Lois was born March 12, 1927 in rural Elgin, Iowa to Harry and Elma (Meyer) Reichert. She was baptized at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union on May 12, 1927 where she also confirmed her faith on March 24, 1940. She also confirmed her faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church on March 30, 1947. She graduated with the Class of 1945 from West Union High School.
Lois was united in marriage with Donald Peter Winter on October 15, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. They farmed together until his death. Three children were born to this union. Lois enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, canning, gardening, painting and playing cards. Lois, together with her husband, Donald enjoyed attending square dances and ballroom dances. She was involved in WELCA at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4H, and the Friendly Homemakers Club. Lois was a wonderful cook- making special cakes or pies for birthdays, cutting out and frosting holiday cookies with the grandchildren, and feeding everyone treats who stopped to visit. Lois loved holidays, decorating inside and out. She made many Halloween costumes over the years. She liked to go for drives in the country. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. Most of all Lois loved spending time with her family and travelling with her children. Lois was a resident of Traditions for eight years.
Lois is survived by her three children, Marsha Ruby of Postville, Iowa, John (Marsha) Winter of West Union, Iowa and Dean (Kim) Winter of Dassel, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Joshua (Bonnie) Ruby, Jamie Winter and Emily Winter; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Benjamin Ruby; and one sister-in-law, Jean Dickman.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Winter on January 31, 1986; parents, Harry and Elma Reichert; granddaughter, Sara Winter; brother, Lyle Reichert; and one sister, Lavon Reichert.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Monday.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Monday, May 22, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa with Rev. Ginny Olson as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Eldorado, Iowa.
