Darold Martin, West Union, Iowa, July 23, 2017

Darold “DA” Martin of West Union, Iowa passed away peacefully July 23, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society, West Union, Iowa. Darold Alvin Martin was born October 4, 1919 to Fred and Bertha (Scoles) Martin near Bruce, Wisconsin.

At age 10 Darold and his family moved to West Union. He graduated from West Union High School in 1938. After graduation he worked at a variety of jobs in West Union often using his artistic ability.

Darold was united in marriage on May 16, 1942 with Elva Westendorf from Alpha, Iowa. They remained living, working and raising a family in West Union.

Darold lived his life doing the work and activities he enjoyed. He was a longtime volunteer fireman, president of the Iowa Antique Bottle Collectors, a self-taught sign painter, artist, photographer, taxidermist, and a passionate outdoors-man.

Darold is survived by his children, Charlotte (Chuck) Broughton of Calmar, Iowa and Greg (Mary Beth) Martin of Castle Rock, Colorado; three grandchildren, Andrea Seegmiller, Erin (Alan) Williams, Rebekah (Eric) McEachen; seven great-grandchildren, Leah Seegmiller, Mathew Seegmiller, Abigail Williams, Samantha Williams, Elizabeth Williams, Gabrielle McEachen and Olivia McEachen; one-sister-in law Laura Westendorf and many nieces and nephews.

Darold was preceded in death by his wife, Elva, his parents, Fred and Bertha Martin; one sister, Irene Martin; and two brothers, George Martin and Robert Martin.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 2-4 pm on at the Fayette County Historical Society, 100 North Walnut St. West Union.
