Lee Allen Johanningmeier, McGregor, Iowa, October 16, 2017

Lee Allen Johanningmeier, 93, of McGregor, Iowa died Monday, October 16, 2017 at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa. Lee Allen was born March 3, 1924 to Arlo H and Lucy (Mueller) Johanningmeier in McGregor, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School in 1941.  After graduation Lee Allen joined and proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps.

Lee Allen was united in marriage with Eileen Auer on October 4, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa by Rev. Luke Donlon. Five children were born to this union.   Lee Allen and Eileen farmed together and raised their children on their farm east of Monona, Iowa.

Lee Allen was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his lifetime. He was also passionate about sports, as both player and spectator. During all four of his high school years, he pitched on the baseball team, played guard on the basketball team, and was a receiver on the football team. He loved reminiscing about being able to play on some of Monona High School’s finest teams from that era. His love of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs is legendary, and has been passed down to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition, Lee Allen and his late wife, Eileen, were known throughout the area for their love of dancing, which they did into their 90’s. Their parents’ passions for the outdoors, sports, music and dancing has left the family with numerous happy memories and continuing traditions.

Survivors include five children, John (Patricia) Johanningmeier, Belvidere, IL, Rick (Janice) Johanningmeier, Monona, Tara (Don) Lovell, Mexico, MO, Tami (Doug) McReynolds, Cedar Falls and Dan (Patty) Johanningmeier, Columbia, MO; eight grandchildren; Lana (Rick) Kraft, Lisa (Ryan) McNeal, Nicole (Milo) Bruene-Vukelich, Scott (Jessica) Johanningmeier, Jared Johanningmeier, Cameron McReynolds, Jeffrey Johanningmeier and Cassie (Cameron) Doolady; seven great-grandchildren; Britney and Blake Kraft, Keira McNeal, Hannah Bruene, Landon and Kellen Johanningmeier and Braxton Doolady; one sister, Sharon (Roland) Troester of Guttenberg, Iowa; sister-in-law, Angela Hogan, Postville; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Auer, Lansing and Edward (Peg) Auer, Winthrop.

Lee Allen was preceded in death by his wife Eileen on August 26, 2016; his parents; and one brother Don Johanningmeier.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Erika Kielstrup as the Officiant.

Interment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa with Military Rites.
