Lorna Friedlein, 84, of McGregor, Iowa died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. Lorna M. was born March 4, 1933 to Herbert and Esther (Benzing) Schlitter in rural Rossville, Iowa.
Lorna was united in marriage with Floyd Friedlein on September 3, 1951. In 1954 they took up farming with Floyd’s parents on the Friedlein family farm in rural McGregor, where they raised their three sons. While on the farm, Lorna enjoyed gardening, gathering nuts and berries, as well as raising many chickens, ducks and rabbits.
In 1989 Lorna and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Monona, Iowa. She continued to gather and sell nuts, took care of her own garden as well as her neighbor’s garden. She enjoyed helping many elderly friends and neighbors in Monona. Lorna moved to the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa in December of 2012.
Lorna is survived by her sons, Roger (Janet) Friedlein of McGregor, Iowa and Alan (Cathy) Friedlein of Monona, Iowa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Dittman of Waukon, Iowa.
Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Esther Schlitter; husband of fifty years, Floyd; her oldest son, Stanley.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the funeral home on Friday.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Gary Hatcher as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
