James Devenport, Postville, Iowas, February 22, 2018

James Henry Devenport, 96, of Postville, Iowa died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon, Iowa. James was born April 21, 1921 to Edward N and Marie (Casperson) Devenport in Mason City, Iowa.  He graduated from high school in Gays Mills, Wisconsin, and attended two years at La Crosse State Teacher’s College. James joined the United States Army Air Core and proudly served in WWII from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1944.

James was united in marriage with Ruth Schwindt on December 1, 1943 in Bakersfield, California. To this union one daughter was born. James was employed as a Quality Control Manager for the company formerly known as UOP-Norplex until his retirement. He was a quiet, unassuming man who enjoyed reading, following financial statistics and making a good pot of soup. Blessed be his memory.

James is survived by his daughter, Cathy Devenport; brother, Edward N. Devenport Jr.; nephew, Stephen; and nieces, Linda, Zelda and Ellen Jane.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on March 9, 1984; his parents, Edward and Marie; and his sisters, Margaret Nederlo and Anna Marie Mohr.

There will be a private family graveside service at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa with Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in Decorah officiating.
