Elizabeth “Betty” Jane (Kubitz) Hogan, Postville, Iowa, passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the age of 95. Betty was born in Caledonia, Minnesota on June 30, 1922 to Edward and Jane (Reburn) Kubitz. She was baptized July 23,1922 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa and confirmed at St. Mary Catholic Church in Caledonia, Minnesota. Betty attended schools in Houston County, Minnesota. Being the third oldest she watched over all of the kids to help her mother out, which carried through all of her years. Betty was her dad’s right-hand daughter and helped with everything on the farm. In her younger years she enjoyed skiing and playing ball.

In the 1940’s Betty worked at the Red Cross in Waukon and was not afraid to venture out with WW2 in full force, she headed to San Diego, California to work at Convair Airplane Plant and at Navel Supply Depot along with two of her sisters and two good friends. Many wonderful time were spent traveling out there and visiting the wounded soldiers on Sunday afternoons. After spending 1944 and 1945 in California, Betty decided it was time to head back to the Midwest. As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder and Betty was missing her soon to be husband. Terry popped the question and on Oct. 24 1953 they married at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa.  To this union two daughters, Colleen and Connie were born.

They lived and farmed in the Monona and Postville area until selling their farm and moving to Postville in 1989.

Terry and Betty enjoyed a lot of traveling which included many bus trips and Amtrak trips hitting every state except four. They were great fans of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls and members of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville Iowa. Their love of music took them to many evenings of dancing and socializing.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Colleen Livingood of Rancho Santa Fe, California and Connie (Bob) Plaht of Luana, Iowa; two sisters, Marjorie Kramer of San Diego, California and Marcie Quillin of Waukon, Iowa; sistersin-law, Phyllis Kubitz of Waukon, Iowa and Angie Hogan of Postville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brandon Livingood, Blake Livingood, Kyle Klepper and Celsey Klepper; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
