Francis Joseph Forst, 82, of McGregor, Iowa died Thursday, April 12, 2018. Francis was born January 24, 1936 to Leonard and Leona (Becwar) Forst in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. While growing up he was active in FFA and 4-H. Francis graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1954 and attended the University of Wisconsin Madison. He also served in the United States Army.
Francis was united in marriage with Teresa Scheckel on September 4, 1957 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Seneca, Wisconsin. Four children were born to this union. He farmed near Giard, Iowa for over fifty-five years. Francis enjoyed growing crops, raising baby calves and watching them running the fields. He had been active at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa.
Francis is survived by his wife, Teresa Forst of McGregor, Iowa; his four children, Cathleen (Alan) Friedlein of Monona, Iowa, Janet (Richard Riehle) Forst of Wilmington, Delaware, James Forst of McGregor, Iowa and Philip Forst of Woodbury, Minnesota; one grand-daughter, Katarina (David) Arterberry of DeWitt, Iowa; step great-grandson, Michael Arterberrry; his siblings, Gerald (Catherine) Forst of Janesville, Wisconsin, Norita (John) Hollar of Milladore, Wisconsin, Roger (Edna) Forst of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Marilyn (John) Piechowski of Red Granite, Wisconsin and Diane (Ronald) Goodman of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Leona; and one brother, Dennis Forst.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa. There will also be a visitation from 9-10:30 am before mass at the church on Saturday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. Nils de Jesus Hernandez as the celebrant.
Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
