James McChane, Fayette, Iowa, April 25, 2018

James Roy McChane, 63, of Fayette, Iowa died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at his home in Fayette, Iowa. James was born on December 31, 1954 to Roy and Ruth (Landas) McChane in West Union, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in 1973 and joined the United States Army in 1974. James served from 1976-1977 in Korea with Company B 7th Engineer Battalion, 1979 to 1980 with Company A 10 th Engineer Battalion in Germany and was stationed at both Fort Knox and Fort Polk. He was a Combat Engineer and was honorably discharged in 1980 from the Army, as a Sergeant.  That same year he joined the National Guard fulltime until his retirement in 1997 with HHC 15th Battalion 133rd Infantry FC as a Sergeant First Class. After his retirement from the military James worked for Northwind Concrete, before starting Iowa Base Concrete.

James was united in marriage with Jamey Yauslin. Two children were born to this union. They later divorced. James was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed watching Formula One racing. When his children were young, James enjoyed bringing them along when he test drove vehicles. He treasured spending time with his three grandchildren.

James is survived by his two children, Stephanie (Gabe) Oldfather of Fairbank, Iowa and Christopher (Yun Xiao) McChane of Woodside, New York; grandchildren, Olivia, Aidan and Norah Oldfather; mother, Ruth McChane of Fayette, Iowa; and his siblings, Deb (Steve) Manges of Waterloo, Iowa and Kathy (Alan) Langreck of Fayette, Iowa.

James was preceded in death by his father, Roy McChane; and one brother, Ricky McChane.

Celebration of Life will be held from 3-7 pm on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa.

Private family burial will be held at a later date.
