Frank Richard Thyer, 98, of Randalia, Iowa died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. Frank was born October 7, 1919 in Volga, Iowa to Cecil and Minnie (Revel) Thyer. He farmed with his mother and brother, starting at age thirteen. He bought a farm east of Randalia in 1945 and farmed there until 1996.
Frank was united in marriage with Donna Schroeder in 1941. Two children were born to this union, Phillip and Debra. They later divorced. Frank was united in marriage with Frances Guenther on October 20, 1966 at the Methodist Church in Galena, Illinois. Frank and Frances farmed side by side.
Frank served on the Randalia School Board, Randalia Creamery Board, Randalia Methodist Church Board, Fayette County Soil Conservation Board, Dunham Grove Cemetery Board and was a lifetime member of Farm Bureau. He and Frances travelled extensively and enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, music and reading. Frank was a friend to all.
Frank is survived by his wife, Frances Thyer of Fayette, Iowa; daughter, Debra (Rollyn) Schroeder of Oelwein, Iowa; stepson, Richard (Judith) Guenther of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; step-daughters, Elizabeth Guenther of Fayette, Iowa and Janette Vandersee of Fayette, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Carol Thyer of Independence, Iowa; sister, Opal Colvin of Postville, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law, Elaine Kerr and Mary Williams of California, Faye Spaeth of Texas and Marjorie Feuerhelm of Shellsburg, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Lee (Peggy) Williams of Texas and Dennis Williams of Nevada.
Frank was preceded in death by his infant brother, Charles; parents, Cecil and Minnie Thyer; son, Phillip; brothers, James and Ernest; sisters, May Woods and Florence Jennings; one infant granddaughter; seven brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, May 25, 2018 at United Methodist Church, Randalia, Iowa with Pastor Julie Ahrens as the officiant.
Burial will follow at Dunham Grove Cemetery in Randalia, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Randalia United Methodist Church, Dunham Grove Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
