Donald Eugene Bugenhagen, 84, of Luana, Iowa died Sunday, July 8th, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa after battling a brief illness. Donald Eugene Bugenhagen was born on October 5th, 1933 to Walter and Florence (Gentz) Bugenhagen at their family farm in Clayton County, Iowa. Don graduated from high school in 1951 in Luana, Iowa. He proudly served in the Engineering Dept of the United States Navy from March of 1952 till February of 1956 during the Korean War. Don was the plant engineer at Hygrade for thirty years in Postville, Iowa and then again at Agri where he retired from.
Don was united in marriage with Linda Muchow for twenty years. Three children, Craig, Kevin and Denise were born into this union. Don and Linda later divorced. Don was later united in marriage with Kathy Knospe. One son, Kyle was born into this union. Don and Kathy later divorced.
Don is survived by his children, Craig Bugenhagen of Luana, Iowa, Denise (Pat) Walker of Postville, Iowa and Kyle Bugenhagen (Rachel Housker) of Luana, Iowa; his grandchildren, Brandi (Bill) Van Gorp of Waukon, Iowa, Devin (Ashley) Bugenhagen of Luana, Iowa, CJ Uhlenhake and Dietrick Bugenhagen of Luana, Iowa; his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Stella and Jackson Van Gorp of Waukon, Iowa, Keegan and Ember Bugenhagen of Luana, Iowa; and one sister, Joan Sedlmayer of Bagley, Wisconsin.
Don had many great hobbies in life. He loved fishing, playing cards with his family, dancing and gardening. Don purchased a helicopter kit for his pre-retirement years. He took apart and remodeled his helicopter 3 times to make additional improvements. Anyone who knew Don knew that he took great pride in this.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence Bugenhagen; his son, Kevin Bugenhagen on October 12th, 2016; his grandson, Tanner Walker (survived by Gretchen Hanson) on December 4th, 2017; and his brother, Bob Bugenhagen.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa with Rev. Harold McMillin as the officiant.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
