His parents were Gretchen “Babe” (Levenhagen) (1915-1997) and Leo G. Moses (1917-1963). His maternal grandparents were Emma (Mielke) (1888-1945) and Rudolph Levenhagen (1880-1964). His paternal grandparents were Anna (Lestina) (1881-1952) and John J. Moses (1880-1942).
He grew up and spent his entire life on the Moses Century Farm (Linton Township, Allamakee County) rural Monona, Iowa. Dick often said that the only move he ever made was from one bedroom to another bedroom in the same house. He attended the M-F-L (Monona, Iowa) Public School, graduating with the class of 1970.
Dick was a 4-H member and belonged to the FFA (Future Farmers of America). He attended many conferences and received numerous awards and certificates. The most distinguished was the Iowa State Farmer Award in his senior year. This is the highest degree bestowed to members by the Iowa FFA Association. The award was presented April 24, 1970, at the 42nd annual FFA Leadership Conference, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He served as director of the Northeast Iowa Telephone Company, Monona, Iowa, for 9 years (1990-1999).
Dick enjoyed hunting mushrooms, squirrel, and deer. He had a few of his best deer heads mounted. He collected guns and miniature Farmall Tractors. Dick also enjoyed bowling. He bowled in a league for many years and received both individual and team recognition.
Dick’s father died when he was 11 years old and he started farming at that time. He never wanted to do anything else. Dick’s obvious love of farming was highlighted when he received the Century Farm Award at the Iowa State Fair, in Des Moines, on August 18, 2009. The farm was purchased by his grandparents, Anna and John Moses, on February 16, 1909.
He is survived by his sister and her husband Deanna and Ronald Asleson, and many other relatives and friends.
