George Oliver Miller, formerly of Volga, Iowa, October 4, 2018

George Oliver Miller, 96, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. He was born October 27, 1921, in Wadena to Adrian Lewis and Eva (Spore) Miller.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann Berse on November 26, 1940. One son was born to this union. He served in the United States Army.  George was the barber in Volga from 1948, retiring in 1999. He also drove school bus for Central Community Schools, Elkader from 1956-1989.

He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed playing Blackjack, pool, bowling and dancing. Making wine was a favorite pastime.

Survivors include his son Jack and his wife Sheila of Marion; three granddaughters, Tina (Brian) Kerslake of Central City, Stacie (Mike) Coomes of Slater, and Orlinda Robertson of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan (Sarah) Lochner, Joshua (Mikaela) Kerslake, Ashley Kerslake, Jared Coomes and Brandon Comes;   one great-great-granddaughter, Sophie Lochner; one brother, Adrian (Belle) Miller of Marion; and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie, in August of 2002; one great-grandson, Michael Kopp; two sisters, Ada Garner and Mary Squire.

Visitation: 9:00 am until 10:15 on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Volga.

Mass of Christian Burial:  10:30AM on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Volga, with Rev. John Haugen as Celebrant.

Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Volga
