Walter Thornton, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, October 8, 2018

Walter “Steve” Thornton, 65, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin died Monday, October 8, 2018 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Walter was born June 13, 1953 to Harold and Virginia (Williams) Thornton in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He earned his G.E.D. and attended tech school. Walter joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.

Walter was united in marriage with Joyce Shulka on November 25, 1972 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. One son was born to this union, Chuck. Walter worked for Gen-Cor in Marquette, Iowa. In his spare time Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was a fan of Nascar and the Green Bay Packers.

Walter is survived by his wife, Joyce Thornton of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; siblings, Florance Baumann, Dorothy (Gary) Drury, Ronnie (Bea) Thornton, Rueben (Helen) Thornton, Bonnie Ackerman and David (Diane) Thornton; and the closest he had to grandchildren, Arieanna and Elijah.

Walter was preceded in death by his son, Chuck; three sisters, Linda Matthews, Betty Schulz and Judy Thornton; and his parents, Harold and Virginia Thornton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin with full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
