Bertha Catherine Butikofer, 91, of Clermont, Iowa died Friday, November 16, 2018 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. Bertha was born on August 5, 1927 to Frank and Renabell (Hansel) Borwig in Iowa City, Iowa. She was baptized at the Apostolic Church in Elgin, Iowa.
Bertha was united in marriage with Reuben Butikofer on her birthday, August 5, 1944 in La Porte City, Iowa. Throughout the years she worked as a waitress in Waterloo from 1944 to 1946, sold Avon, was a foreman at Wayne Poultry for thirteen years, owned a clothing store, Corner Closet in Clermont from 1979 to 1982 and was a Librarian Assistant in Clermont from 1988 to 1992. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, reading, card parties, visiting with family and friends and attending family gatherings. She was a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church and WELCA.
Bertha is survived by her children, Ronald Butikofer of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Linda (Tom) Burow of Mt. Hope, Wisconsin, Mary (Albert) Amundson of Clermont, Iowa and Donald (Heidi) Butikofer of Alpha, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer (Linda) Heckmann, Janette (Lewis) Byrnes, Joyelle (Mark) Meyer, Justin (Carrie) Heckmann, Jodi (Tom) Heckmann, Heather (Chad) Coffin, Amber (Aaron) Wedo, David (Tara) Amundson, Dee Jae (Karissa) Butikofer, Robbie (Toni) Butikofer, Jayme Butikofer, Joan (Travis) Butikofer, Steve (Melodee) Woods, Kara (Bud) Johnson and Danny (Aleisha) Woods; thirty-six great grandchildren; siblings, Renabell Kelley of Chapin, Iowa , Virginia Wedo of Elgin, Iowa and Ione Adkes of Waterloo, Iowa
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Reuben; parents Frank Borwig and Renabell Rocho; sisters, Ida Mae Borwig and June Evelyn Borwig; one son -in-law, Gary Lee Heckmann and two brothers-in- law, John Kelley, Sr. and Vernon Wedo
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa with Rev. Phillip Olson as the officiant.
Burial will follow at the Apostolic Cemetery in Elgin, Iowa
