Neva Mae Jaster, 97, Ossian, Iowa, February 21, 2019

Neva Mae Jaster, 97, of Ossian, Iowa died Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa. She was born May 11, 1921 to Bernard and Edna (Hein) Waters at home in Clayton County. Neva attended country school near Postville, Iowa, graduated from Postville High School, earned her teaching certificate and began teaching country school until she was married.

Neva was united in marriage with John “Johnnie” L. Jaster on May 29, 1940 on the family farm. She and Johnnie opened a feed mill in Ossian and welcomed two children, Bonnie and Jack. Neva enjoyed sewing especially clothing, and mending her friends clothing. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, crafting, gardening, professionally baking cakes and teaching her skills making afghans. Neva worked as a part-time teacher’s aide, was a life-time weight watcher member for forty years and belonged to bridge club for sixty years. She was kind, generous, caring, and loved helping family and friends. We will all miss her tremendously.

Neva is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Pape of West Union, Iowa; six grandchildren, Denise (Roger) Schutte, Pete (Wanda Crawford) Pape, Diann Pape, John (Stephanie) Jaster, Shannon (Chuck) Covell and Chad (Julie) Jaster;  twelve great-grandchildren, Lance (Jonna) Schutte, Kalista Moneypenny, Nathan Schutte, Aleshia (Joe) Semler, Joshua Schutte, Jaquelyn Jaster, Amy Covell, Jordan Jaster, Austin Covell, Brady Jaster, Paige Jaster and Josephina Jaster and twelve great-great grandchildren, Blake, Briella, Breklyn and Brayton Schutte, Brecken and Brynlee Moneypenny, Kaydence, Gavin and Ryleigh Semler and Jariya, Tristan and Kaein Jones.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1986; her son, John “Jack” in 2011; son-in-law, Dale Pape; daughter-in-law, Karen Jaster and brother, Eugene Waters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 4-7 pm at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Robert Gross as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
